Kitchen Conversion in a 15th-Century Suffolk Dairy Barn
This unique kitchen conversion took place in a 15th-century converted dairy barn in Suffolk, where we were tasked with designing and building a kitchen to our client’s exact specifications. The project was a departure from our existing handmade kitchen collection, prompting us to create a brand-new design specifically for this space. After seeing the final result, we added this kitchen style to our range, and it has since become a popular choice among clients.
The design itself is characterised by its minimalistic style, featuring clean, straight lines and sharp, handleless details. The versatility of this kitchen is highlighted by the endless options for colour variations and handle strips, which can be crafted in timber, laminate, or metal in a variety of finishes.
Kitchen Specifications:
Cabinetry: 19mm melamine carcasses with 18mm moisture-resistant MDF doors and frontals, spray-finished in Farrow & Ball Stiffkey Blue
Worktop: Hi-Macs Edessa solid acrylic stone, offering a seamless, durable surface
Ironmongery: Internal Blum drawer systems and storage pullouts for optimised functionality
Flooring: Honed and graded Indian sandstone in an autumn blend, sealed with a clear satin finish for durability
Appliances: High-end Neff appliances, including a single oven, integrated microwave and dishwasher, and a 5-burner ceramic induction hob
Sink & Tap: Franke stainless steel undermount double-width sink and a sleek chrome 1-lever tap
Given the nature of the property’s irregular walls and floors, the installation was intricate and time-consuming, but our skilled team expertly managed the challenges. We also undertook significant upgrades to the electrical systems and redesigned the drainage behind the old kitchen to ensure modern functionality.
The result is nothing short of stunning—a kitchen that seamlessly blends contemporary design with the rustic charm of the barn, creating a perfect harmony between past and present.
